The power of Water- associated peace
Blue mind is the term to describe water-associated peace.
A mildly meditative state characterised by calm, peace, unity, and a sense of general happiness
and satisfaction with life in the moment, this is something that I have always felt yet had never
know the term Blue Mind and wasn’t aware it is a neuroscience but can certainly understand
why .
I find this fascinating yet not shocking as I have always felt an inner peace when in or around
water.
As far back as I can remember I loved water and certainly by definition was a “blue minded
person”, as a child I was a water baby and lived in the local Swimming pool, then growing up and
moving from Pimlico London to Brighton it was a dream to live by the Sea, I holidayed in
Cornwall from a young age, mainly Newquay and noticed as soon as I drove into Cornwall it felt
like a different air and seeing the coastline gave me such a sense of inner peace, which hasn’t
changed it feels the same now as it did when I first went.
I am now so fortunate to live with the Sea at the end of my road I can hear the waves and smell
the seaweed which I love and never tire of the beautiful view from my window , Blue mind
certainly makes a lot of sense to me as this is what continuously pulls me back to the water, even
hearing water relaxes me and when it comes to swimming in the sea there is nothing like it
especially with my fur baby Pip, just the feeling of calmness and contentment.
Other health benefits of being in or near water are:
- Boosts creativity and problem solving
- Lowers heart rate by triggering the feel –good hormones endorphins
- Elevated and sustained feeling of happiness
- Lowers stress and anxiety levels
- Calms an overstimulated mind or anxious state
- Can induce a semi-mediative state
- Gives a sense of peace, unity, and connection.
- Improves self-reflection
- Offers a break from the demands of daily life
- Feeling happier and calmer
Wild swimming
Wild swimming is hugely popular now; I find that I can only do this in warmer weather
although I would love to. I just can’t enjoy freezing water, maybe I will change in time?
Especially when it holds so many benefits such as:
- Stress and Anxiety reduction
- Boost your brain power
- Improving mental clarity and mindfulness
- Mood boost and euphoria
- Good for skin and hair
- Increased confidence and resilience
- Connecting with like-minded people and feeling a sense of belonging
- Connecting with nature (Eco-therapy)
- Boosting the immune system
- Metabolism boost
- Improve the body’s circulation
- Body workout
- Improve sleep
- Reducing inflammation and pain relief in the body
It’s fascinating what waters capabilities are, providing relaxation and relieving stress are some of
its most significant healing powers, I have noticed after a crazy busy day at work all I need is one
hour in the water, it’s a great way of relaxing yet processing everything that’s happened
throughout the day, I find that swimming can cause feeling of being in a mediative state and has
always made me feel relaxed and more focused.
Healing & Energy
Cultures around the world equate water with healing and energy and I completely understand
why, many people believe that water can absorb prayers, cleanse unwanted energy or healing,
by incorporating water into our daily rituals can promote a sense of peace and spiritual
connection as well as:
- Cleansing and renewal
- Water associated with healing carrying healing/spiritual properties
- Connecting with nature activities like swimming or surfing are considered spiritual
- practices that foster an intimate connection with the water element
- Showering just taking a moment for quiet reflection
- Water-centric meditation finding a sense of calm and clarity.
It was fascinating looking into the power and healing of water and the peace that it can bring
upon oneself, not for everybody but certainly for me.
